March 14

 Grade 8:

Today we work on our concave and convex mirror diagrams. Using the following checklist, hand your diagrams in tomorrow, Tuesday March 15, at the beginning of class.

-Page has a title that clearly identifies what the diagram is of

-Work is neatly done (organized, drawn with a ruler, done in pencil, etc)

-Diagram is drawn to scale

-Diagram is drawn accurately (Angle of incidence = Angle of Reflection)

-The following components are included and are labelled:

-Mirror (concave or convex)

-Normals

-Incident Rays

-Reflected Rays

-Focal point

We began looking at the refraction of light today. Use this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zarxpu43-ls) to supplement your learning. We drew the diagram in the video together as a class. Tomorrow, we will look at its different components to explain them and begin our lens lab.

Grade 9:

Today we had a POE (predict, observe, explain) demonstration using an electromagnet and moving the needle of a compass with a weaker electromagnet. Use this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxELqN7wjS0) to supplement your learning. Be sure to take notes on what makes a strong electromagnet.

Please let Ms. Saadat know if you will be away on Friday, March 18 2022 as you will need to write your Topic 2, 3.1, and 3.2 quiz on Thursday.

Here is what will be covered on the quiz:

-Switches and Resistors

-Conductors and Insulators

-Ohm’s Law (voltage, current, resistance)

-Forms of energy and energy transformations (it is a good idea to finish your energy transformations worksheet to help review for the quiz - an answer key will be posted tomorrow)

-Electromagnetism

MOTORS AND GENERATORS WILL NOT BE COVERED ON THE QUIZ
